2023 DonorsChoose Projects - Thank You!

Thanks to your wonderful support over 2023, I was once again able to support two local science classrooms in their quest to educate young minds about the scientific process through DonorsChoose!

Donors choose is a web-based non-profit crowdfunding platform that connects teachers in need of classroom supplies and resources with donors who want to support education. You can filter by location and topic, so at the end of each year I search for classrooms in the New England region (starting with MA!) in need of STEM  (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) educational resources.

My enthusiasm for supporting STEM education is twofold:

  • First, I am a scientist and I know firsthand the importance of high quality, engaging early STEM education in garnering confidence-boosting exposure to skills critical for a successful STEM career.

  • Second, I have a bone to pick with the spread of misinformation in the beauty industry (mainly in fear-mongering marketing techniques that have caught like wildfire). In mulling over my frustration with this problem, I kept coming back to the necessity of quality early STEM education to foster the logical reasoning and analytical mindset required to resist truth-bending or outright pseudoscientific marketing tactics.

By fostering a scientifically-informed mindset in the beauty industry, we not only raise awareness about the importance of evidence-based practices but also contribute to the promotion of healthier and more accurate beauty standards.

DonorsChoose allows me to keep it local while both 'paying it forward' and supporting education on a subject near and dear to my heart. Win-Win!

In 2023 we were able to donate $369 across two projects.

  • The first was a request for science games to foster interest and engagement as well as posters to create a more creatively appealing classroom in Chelsea, MA. Check it out here!
